Education:

Food for Life Nepal is dedicated to collaborating with governments to ensure that every school-aged child has access to nourishing meals, fostering health and readiness for learning. In Budhanilkantha and Tokha Municipality, numerous children attend school on empty stomachs daily, impacting their concentration and learning abilities. Additionally, many children, especially girls, are unable to attend school due to familial obligations in the fields or domestic tasks.

Since 2015 AD, Food for Life Nepal has been instrumental in addressing these challenges through its Mid-day meal program. This initiative serves as a transformative force across multiple sectors, enhancing children’s education, health, and nutrition. The program not only acts as an incentive for families to enroll and retain their children in school but also alleviates financial burdens by saving approximately 10 percent of vulnerable households’ income previously allocated for lunches. Furthermore, school meals play a crucial role in discouraging early marriages, empowering girls, and contributing to the development of ‘human capital’ – the collective health, skills, knowledge, experience, and habits of a population. By combining school meals with complementary health interventions, Food for Life Nepal aims to build a foundation for better-educated and healthier communities.

In addition to the social impact, the school meal programs are strategically sourced from local small holders, providing economic benefits to local communities. This approach supports the establishment of sustainable, climate-sensitive food systems. In many countries, school meals represent the primary source of government food procurement. Looking ahead, Food for Life Nepal is committed to continuing its support to governments and aims to provide meals to over 25,000 school children by the year 2032 AD. By promoting better health and nutrition through school meals. FFLN seeks to enhance children’s learning outcomes, expanding their educational opportunities for a brighter future.
